Cyclone Pat passed over Aitutaki in the early hours of Wednesday 10th February.
Fortunately no-one was injured, with most resorts, Pacific Resort Aitutaki included, receiving only minor damage. Pacific Resort Aitutaki's grounds sustained most of the damage through fallen trees, branches, debris & blown sand.
All hands were on deck to get the clean up job done as efficiently as possible and was completed ahead of schedule – only 6 days after the cyclone passed over. There is ongoing mending and nurturing of the grounds which will take some time but our award winning resort is fully operational, with the high standards of accommodation & service we are renowned for still shining and the Aitutaki lagoon looking as spectacular as ever.
All lagoon & fishing tours are operational, all restaurants open and rental vehicles are available.

What is of most importance is that tourism to Aitutaki still flourishes. The majority of the damage sustained from the cyclone was to the local village housing and to the island’s vegetation. While the rebuild and clean up is well underway, visitors to the island are even more important now to fuel the local economy in its rebuild, as 80% of the island’s economy is dependent on Tourism.
