Susan Noonan departed Aitutaki for the last time to take a well earned rest before starting her new post with the Six Senses Group in Vietnam…..her time in Aitutaki will be remembered as a defining period for Pacific Resort Aitutaki. A period where she took service and operational levels to new heights. She is missed dearly by her many friends in Aitutaki and Rarotonga.

Tangaroa – God of the Sea challenged all competitors with a mixture of ocean conditions from not-really-dangerous to almost-very-dangerous throughout the event and afforded the spectators to some damn thrilling races…..

New Tourism Industry Council Formed.

At a meeting in January of accredited tourism industry properties and operations, together with tourism stakeholders, CEO for Pacific Resort Hotels, Greg Stanaway, was unanimously  elected the Chairman of the newly formed ‘Cook Islands Tourism Industry Council’. This new group representing the Tourism Industry will work closely with the Minister of Tourism, the Cook Islands Tourism Corporation and Chamber of Commerce to further develop plans and solutions that challenge our industry.

Making the air we breathe cleaner for all…..

We are thrilled with the progress made by our Chief Gardener, Olly Tangaroa, with our own Bio Diesel project. Olly is recycling our used cooking oils from the kitchen into ‘Bio Diesel’ and has refined the concoction for use as an alternate fuel source for our diesel vehicles. He is now experimenting with it’s use in weed wackers and outboard motors. We also use this new fuel in our Flame Torches… Result - less smoke and far more pleasant on the nose. Olly predicts that with Pacific Resort Aitutaki waste oil as well, production will soon top 150 litres a month.

While on the subject of the environment, our grounds and maintenance teams make every effort to re-cycle all that we can… Cans, bottles, metals, plastic’s and paper to the Recycling Depot... Bio-degradable waste to farmers and growers.

Our gardens also enjoy the benefit of our waste management programmes….grey water from our treatment plant is recycled into our luxuriant tropical gardens…..no wonder they are always receiving huge compliments from our guests who enjoy our twice weekly complimentary ‘Tropical Garden Tour’…...
The Cook Islands is committed to do its bit for the world environment. Pacific Resort is similarly committed and is at the leading edge of the Cook Island’s environmental conscience……

Taking the Lead…...

Pacific Resort Rarotonga will be at the leading edge of the formation of a new ‘Action Community Group’ to address common issues and challenges facing the development of existing and new businesses in Ngatangaia Village and Muri Beach. Some of the action points include working with Traditional Leaders to declare a ‘Raui’ – Marine Reserve for Muri lagoon, improvement of service standards at every level amongst the business community, working closely with Marine Resources on their ‘Coral growing’ projects for the reef system, co-ordinating environment programmes and training with the Cook Islands Environment Service and assisting village councils with community projects.
